Prof. S. Agathopoulos is 44 years old, holder of Diploma in Chemistry (1988) and Ph.D. of Chemical Engineering (2004). His Ph.D. was carried out in the framework of the first European Project on Bioceramics (EUREKA).

He has being working exclusively in the field of Ceramics during his post-Doctoral research career in the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Union in the Netherlands and then in the University of Aveiro in Portugal.

At the present time, he is Assistant Professor of CERAMICS TECHNOLOGY in the Laboratory of CERAMICS & COMPOSITE MATERIALS of the department of Materials Science and Engineering of the University of Ioannina in Greece. It should be noticed that there are only 3 Professors (including him) in Greece in the specific field of "Ceramics Technology".

His scientific performance is briefly outlined in 110 scientific articles and more than 160 presentations in international scientific conferences and lectures. He has systematically participated in many Bioceramics conferences. He is member of many Scientific Societies and reviewer of more than 20 Scientific Journals. In May 2009, he organized the 6th International Conference on High Temperature and Capillarity "HTC-2009" with a great success (see the section of HTC-2009).
In June 2010, he will organize the 4th National (Greek) Conference of Biomedicine in the Campus of the University of Ioannina.
